"Ordinary" Refinement and Japanese Craftsmanship
Omoto Denim was created in Kojima, Okayama-the heartland of Japanese selvedge-by Hiroki Kishimoto, former CEO of Japan Blue Jeans. Bringing over three decades of textile development experience dating back to his time at Collect Mill in the early 1990s, Kishimoto founded Omoto around the philosophy of "ordinary" denim. In Japanese culture, this concept denotes ultimate technical refinement, longevity, and freedom from short-lived trends. The brand takes its name from the evergreen Omoto plant, symbolizing a garment that continuously evolves, darkens, and grows more beautiful with every season of wear.
Anatomy of the 13.5 oz Sakamoto Loom Denim and 0615 Silhouette
The 0615 Relax Fit is Omoto's take on a comfort-driven silhouette, pattern-mapped to harmonize with natural human movement. Designed with a high rise and ample room across the top block and thighs, it slants into a sharp taper below the knee to ensure a tailored profile without feeling baggy. The custom 13.5 oz fabric relies on a precise bi-blend: 65% raw American Memphis cotton provides firm structural integrity, while 35% long-staple Zimbabwean cotton adds softness and breathability against the skin. Woven under extremely low tension on modified 1950s Sakamoto shuttle looms, the slubby texture traps character in every weave. Rope-dyed in 100% pure indigo, the yarns maintain a white core, ensuring vivid contrast fades as daily wear exposes the undyed cotton beneath. Factory one-washed to remove initial shrinkage, the 0615 fits true to size right out of the box.
