Markus Krunegård has two specialties: pop hits and ballads. On "Tutti Frutti - from the room under sushi", his seventh solo album and the first of two this year, it becomes clearer than ever.
With precision he moves between two very different emotional states and sings hovering slowly and heavy-fast about each other. Slow, fast, slow, fast. As if emotions can control.
It fits nicely with his stories, which are both about the constant desire to move forward and not be able to let go of what once was.
The restlessness is depicted with the help of fast-paced electronic pop and spontaneous falsetto singing, most beautiful in the introductory "Want you".
But for Krunegård, sentimentality is just as close. The Klara Söderberg duet "It was once in Lisbon" is a wonder about what could have been and one of the quietest things he has done in a long time.
