Indigofera Jeans

indigofera Jeans Total Desert Fall 2023

Indigofera was started in 2009 by Mats Andersson as a brand with a mission and sole focus on ‘’Prima’’ (the Swedish word for quality) when it comes to 1950’s-1970’s inspired selvedge denim jeans and mens clothing, utilizing exclusive Japanese milled fabrics with production in Europe: Prima is the goal, and quality is fact. Since its inception in 2009, Indigofera has become a pioneer in quality heritage style mens clothing. With an attention to detail and a passion for pushing the boundaries, the brand delivers world class Norwegian Wool Blankets, Japanese Selvedge Denim Jeans in a variety of fits like Clint, Kirk, Kain, Wyatt, Buck, and Hawk, also workwear shirts like The Alamo Shirt, Denim and leather overshirts like the Copeland Shirt, denim, leather, and canvas jackets like the Fargo Jacket, Western shirts like Dollard and Ryman shirts, outdoors inspired flannels like Bryson, and Japanese flannel shirts like the Dawson.

What separates Indigofera apart from the mainstream, despite its promise of quality, is the nerdy attention to fabrics. Most fabrics are proprietary to the brand, milled exclusively for them by Nihon Menpu from Japan. Wide loom and narrow loom fabrics are dreamt up and created to form the basis, the heart of each and every garment. Skilled production in Europe brings the pieces to life, from the finest factories with a pedigree for tailoring, cutting, and sewing. Drawing inspiration from the deserts of California, to the High Coast of Sweden, Indigofera is heavily influenced by the natural world. The brand name in itself, is the latin name for Indigo, the dye that allows denim jeans to become a living breathing fabric that changes with the wearer. With vintage feelings in their garments, an attention to the finest details, Indigofera delivers nothing but Prima.

Indigofera Fabrics

For clothing to become part of your story, to last years and to develop its own personal qualities, solid fabrics are needed. Indigofera has been a pioneer in testing out various fabric types and builds. While selvedge denim is often a buzzword and marker of quality, Indigofera confirms that even a wide loom, non-selvedge fabric can be interesting, add complexity, and be just as robust. It is that playful interplay between fabric and branding and garment that makes Indigofera a great choice for men’s denim jeans, shirting, and jackets.

Shiroyama Selvedge 18oz - Used for Buck and Clint style Jeans

This heavy duty denim is woven on narrow loom machines at low speeds and extra low tension, adding a unique handfeel that compliments the heavy weight of the fabric. Made with American grown cotton, and woven in Japan, the fabric is defined by a heavier white weft, making the indigo warp come through in a vintage roughened feel, which becomes more apparent when rinsed.

Gunpowder Denim Japanese Selvedge 14 oz - Used for Clint, Hawk, Copeland Overshirt, Fargo Jacket

With indigo dyed denim jeans, you get personalized fades as the natural indigo pigment rubs away from the threads. To get the same effect, but on a black pair of jeans, Indigofera pioneered the gunpowder denim. Using the same ingredients as real gunpowder, this denim will also fade away, creating an effect like a black and white photo. The smell of the fabric is also unique, in that it has a sulphuric hint to it, reminiscent of the gunpowder ingredients used to dye the warp.

No. 9 Selvedge Denim - Used for Clint and Kirk Jeans

The number 9 fabric had a goal to produce a dark rich blue indigo dyed denim that would fade evenly over time to develop stark high and low contrasts of the white underlying weft. In its rinsed form, it is a soft and perfectly wearable denim from the get go, a good basic that can not be underestimated.

Indigofera Denim Jeans Fit Guide

Available in several different fits and styles, Indigofera has a wide range to choose from. Whether it is loose fitting jeans with a workwear characteristic, or more modern tapered styles, Indigofera, has you covered.

Indigofera Kirk Jeans - Loose Fit Mid-Rise

A favorite for us, the Kirk jeans are perfectly baggy and loose, while resting right where you want them to in the waist. Featured in different fabrics both in denim, bedford cord, gunpowder, brown denim, and more - these jeans are a core piece.

Indigofera Clint Jeans - Classic Regular Straight Fit

Imagine the perfect pair of regular straight fitting jeans, and you would have Clint from Indigofera. Similar to a classic Levis 501, the Clint is a timeless 5 pocket jean, with a normal top box, regular thigh, and straight leg.

Indigofera Nash Jeans - High Rise Slim Leg

For the guy who needs a more modern contemporary fit, go for the Nash. With its high rise and slim leg fit, it is a great compliment for guys built with a regular slim body type.

Indigofera Wyatt Jeans - The Perfect Western Bootcut

Wyatt features a timeless western topblock, regular thigh, and a classic bootcut to accommodate western footwear like pecos or engineer boots. With a signature leather patch on the lower pocket, it is a refined variation on the Wrangler Cowboy cut. The fit is perfect, almost magic in how good it makes the wearer look. If you are looking for a classic 70’s style bootcut cowboy denim, look no further.

Indigofera Kain Jeans - High Waisted Loose Straight

With a flat front and generous top box that tapers, Kain is for those seeking a timeless silhouette. The profile is right out of the 70’s with its loose leg, and generous rise. Available in some interesting fabrics, it definitely has a vintage pre-worn feel to it.

Indigofera Tops, Shirts, Jackets, and Outerwear

Each season offers variations on core pieces, updated in new fabrics and colorways. The strength of the collection relies on the stability of their models, once you find a favorite, you can know it will make a return in a new variation to easily expand your base wardrobe. But remember, seasonal one-offs are a limited run, so gone is gone.

Indigofera Alamo Shirt - Vintage Inspired Chino Twill Workshirt

Quite possibly the best value shirt option offered from any brand, the Alamo is a core piece with seasonal variations, inspired by the workshirts of the 1950’s. Curved hems further accent the vintage feel, and the sturdy cotton twill fabric makes for a beast of a shirt. Two breast pockets, and button closure easily allow this piece to be styled as an overshirt, or a light jacket during the summer months. Garment dyed ensures that the piece will only get better with age, developing a unique character all of its own.

Indigofera Bryson - Vintage inspired Flannel Shirt

This is the kind of flannel you stole from your Dad back in the day. Boxy fit, slubby vintage feeling fabric, and easy button closure. Easy no-fuss flannel that comes every season in a new fabric variation or colorway. The rinsed versions are of particular interest.

Indigofera Dawson - Japanese Selvedge Western Flannel

The Rolls Royce of flannel shirts, this selvedge fabric western shirt is a seasonal favorite. The western yokes and accenting, corduroy lining and snap buttons make this an exclusive shirt that will fade with time due to its indigo or sulfur dyeing.

Sideras, Dollard, and Ryman - Western Shirting with Vintage Feeling

Sideras is a refined scaled down western shirt with snap buttons, western yoke, and modern western pocketing. The Dollard is a classic shirt, with more traditional western details like yoke and sawtooth double button closure pockets. Both options are a bit more slim in fit which is in-line for western styling. Ryman is a classic western denim jeans shirt, available in indigo or gunpowder fabrics. Western details of course, with western yoke and snap button closures.

Indigofera Copeland - The Shirt Jacket that never disappoints

Indigofera’s Copeland is a long-time standard in the collection. A typical overshirt that can be styled as a shirt or jacket, it comes in seasonal fabrics and colorways. With branded metal snap buttons, two chest pockets, and standard fit, it is a go to piece from the brand.

Indigofera Fargo Jacket - As Shirt, Overshirt, & Lined Trucker Jacket

A piece that has been in the collection from the beginning, the Fargo Jacket is a bit boxier than Copeland, allowing for a more versatile piece in terms of layering. As a jacket, it features two hand warmer pockets. For the Fall and Winter version, we see the same iteration but with blanket lining for extra warmth, borrowing from the classic Lee Stormrider style. Always in new fabrics and colorways, it is a time honored piece that is always a hit.

Indigofera Blankets - 100% Norwegian Wool

The blanket was the bedrock for the brand Indigofera. Utilizing a small factory in rural Norway, which has been in operation since the 1940’s, the brand crafts epic 100% Norwegian wool blankets, using sustainable techniques and environmentally friendly practices. The blankets became tapestries for artist collaborations from the likes of Wes Lang, Björn Atldax and Israel Nash to name a few. Other blanket motifs draw their inspiration from the right Swedish tradition of tapestry and weaving techniques, like the Kabusa blanket which was made in collaboration with Red Wing Boots. Blankets are traditional to Swedish culture, especially in the winter months. These wool blankets keep in the warmth and their artistic detailing and craftsmanship easily make them a statement piece or to be used for interior design. Truly versatile as a product, these blankets are soft to the touch and can be washed to maintain their value.
