In the last years before his death, he was probably the artist more than any other, to inspire the younger generations with his kind of country music.
In particular, the punkrock scene were likely to have expanded their musical taste to a facet. Maybe because Johnny Cash was a ´´True-Hearted Punk´´. A rebel, someone who always said that he did not fit in and always stood for what he did and said.
Cash´s songs often was told in the viewpoint of the outsider, the loser, the poor. He told the true stories, the ones where you were not born with a silver spoon in your mouth.
No wonder that punk bands felt inspired to cover the songs too. Already on Vol.1 of Paid in Black, 13 bands paid an impressive tribute to the Man in Black.
With Paid In Black Vol.2 we asked 14 bands from the horrorpunk scene to cover a Cash song. Including such bands as The Other, The Spook, Big John Bates, Mike Zero, Zombina & the Skeletons and Hank Ray / Tex Morton.
All the bands comment on their song and in the booklet you can read how much influence Johnny Cash have had outside of country music.
