In the late '90s, multi-instrumentalist Henrik Cederblom met Wadling during the recording of an album of John Dowland compositions, performed with The Forge Players. Cederblom, a classical guitarist, went on to perform this material live in a duo format with Wadling, marking the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration.
The two would regularly meet in Wadling's garden to play songs they both loved-no plan, no fixed direction, just pure musical curiosity. Their sessions were low-key and spontaneous, rooted in a shared love for the music they grew up with: Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, Captain Beefheart, King Crimson, and more.
Between 2002 and 2006, Wadling and Cederblom recorded many of these songs in a Gothenburg studio. Some were captured in a single take with no preparation, while others-like Roxy Music's The Bogus Man, Prefab Sprout's Life of Surprises, and an early version of Wadling's own Fade Away-became part of their regular live set and took on a more arranged character. What all the recordings share is a raw immediacy-a sense that the music was being born in the moment.
At one point, these recordings were considered for release, but other projects took precedence. In 2011, Cederblom mixed an album version as a gift for Wadling's 60th birthday, but since then, the tracks have remained unreleased and unheard.
That finally changes on May 31, 2024, with the release of The Uni Dexter Melody Hour-a 12-track album curated from this rich archive and newly mixed by Cederblom. It will be released exclusively on vinyl through Knippla Records, in keeping with Wadling's wishes-after all, "no one was making vinyl in 2002!
