SELVEDGE

Selvedge denim is a unique and highly desirable type of denim that has become more popular than non-selvedge for two reasons: the nuances of the denim-weaving technique and the commitment to quality from the mills producing selvedge denim. Our selvedge denim jeans tend to have a tighter, denser weave than non-selvedge, giving the denim a sturdier feel. Additionally, the use of older selvedge loom technology creates variations on the denim surface, making each yard of denim a unique piece of wearable art. Flip up the cuff of your jeans or look inside the coin-pocket to see the neat white and blue "self-finished edge" (hence the term selvedge), which is the proof that this denim is made on a shuttle loom and not a new mass-production loom.

RAW DENIM / DRY DENIM

Raw denim is the purest form of denim fabric that is unwashed and untreated, giving it a crispy and stiff feel. Be careful what you rub up against when wearing raw denim, as it can easily leave traces of its indigo dye behind, even on your hands. One of the most significant benefits of raw denim is that it ages based on what you do in them and to them. Every mile you walk, every scrape on the concrete, every item you keep regularly in your pocket leaves its mark, creating a wholly unique garment that was formed and faded to you and you alone.

SANFORIZATION

The sanforization process pre-shrinks fabric before it is made into a garment, solving a fundamental problem of unfinished denim: shrinkage. Our jeans are sanforized, eliminating the need to worry about your jeans shrinking after purchase. Sanforized denim shrinks about 2-3%, while unsanforized denim can shrink as much as 10%. Many denim enthusiasts prefer unsanforized denim for its unique fading properties, but our sanforized jeans are more convenient and easier to size.

From its humble beginnings as a workwear piece hailing from Italy and france (Genoa, Italy made pants from a denim-like material, not a far stretch from the word jeans, and in Nimes you have a robust fabric, which everything coming from becomes known as 'de Nimes' literally meaning from Nimes, you can start to see the founding of denim jeans in these words).

Synonomous with America, Jeans were the workwear pieces of choice and solidified their importance with patented copper rivets in the right places. Jeans were rough and tough making them great for all workers at this time. Later, they became symbols of youth rebellion, or even Ivy style. You see, the history is long and varied but no matter what or why the reason, it is undeniable that we all love our jeans.
