The Legendary Toyo SC401 Hawaii Sugarcane Denim
The "Hawaii SC401" denim is one of the most celebrated fabric innovations in heritage workwear, originally trademarked and pioneered by Toyo Enterprises in Japan in the early 1990s for their Sugar Cane Co. brand. Milled in Japan, this heavy 14 oz dark indigo twill stands apart due to its unique composition blending 50% cotton with 50% recycled sugarcane fibers. The inclusion of sugarcane fibers imparts a subtle "sweet" natural aroma, distinctive yarn nep, and attractive slub texture. The yarns display subtle shade variations in the indigo dye, creating a fabric known globally among denim enthusiasts for its deeply rewarding, high-contrast fading potential over time.
Californian Lot 64 "Paniolo" Edition Craftsmanship
Designed in California by Christophe Loiron of Mister Freedom® and sewn in the USA in collaboration with Sugar Cane Co., the Lot 64 "Paniolo" Edition pays homage to Hawaiian cowboy ("Paniolo") culture. The interior pocketing features traditional 100% cotton indigo Palaka plaid, a fabric historically worn by sugarcane plantation workers and ranch hands in Hawaii. Built using classic 5-pocket construction with twelve different gauges and shades of 100% cotton thread, every pair is finished with silver-oxidized metal cast buttons and a natural vegetable-tanned cowhide patch. Whether tried on at our physical shop in Lund, Sweden, or shipped to raw denim collectors across Europe, these jeans represent the pinnacle of vintage-inspired American manufacturing.
