Birdnest Records took flight in 1983, though back then it went by the far grittier name BIRDSKIT RECORDS, born right in my teenage bedroom. For a good while, the entire inventory lived under my bed. But as time passed, both the label and the dream grew bigger. We rebranded as BIRDNEST RECORDS, and by the 1990s, we'd become one of Sweden’s heavyweight punk labels.

This book is our way of telling the story—not just about a record label, but about a force that changed lives. Mine, for sure, but also many others'. Some in major ways, others in smaller, quieter ripples. It’s also the tale of an industry that didn’t just shift once, but twice: first when the CD revolutionized how we consumed music, and then again when streaming upended it all over again.

Birdnest Records is still alive and kicking though we might not make as much noise as we used to. That’s why we’ve decided to call this project: “The Book of BIRDNEST RECORDS – from 1982 to the Future.”
