Jackets & Outwear

Hepcat - Jackets and Outwear department - Ceccarelli Deck Jacket

A jacket is more than just outerwear; it’s an investment in craftsmanship and a cornerstone of your personal style. At HepCat Store in Lund, Sweden, we view the jacket as the piece that defines your entire silhouette, whether you’re navigating urban landscapes or exploring the great outdoors. Choosing the right jacket is about understanding materials, history, and purpose. From raw, untreated denim jackets to technically advanced waxed canvas—every model has its own journey and specific use.

Types of Jackets and When to Wear Them

The choice of jacket is often dictated by the season, but in heritage fashion, those lines often blur. An overshirt works perfectly as a light jacket during cool summer evenings or as a sturdy mid-layer under a heavy coat in winter. During the transitional periods of spring and autumn, waxed jackets and denim jackets are the definitive choices, thanks to their ability to withstand wind and light rain while remaining breathable.

When temperatures drop below zero, garments with higher insulation are required. Here, we often see a return to classic military silhouettes like Deck Jackets or Parkas, where natural materials like wool and down take center stage. For the quality-conscious, it’s about finding the balance where functionality meets a timeless aesthetic that only improves with age.

A Deep Dive into Iconic Models

Waxed Canvas Jackets

A waxed jacket is the epitome of durability. By treating heavy cotton canvas with wax, you get a garment that is extremely resistant to water and wind. The beauty of waxed canvas is that it develops a patina similar to raw denim; every crease and mark tells the story of how you’ve worn it. Models like the Filson Short Lined Cruiser and the Freenote Cloth Riders Jacket are iconic examples of this rugged craftsmanship.

Denim Jackets (Trucker Jackets)

No wardrobe is complete without a denim jacket. We focus on classic models like Type I, II, and III, often crafted from premium Japanese selvedge denim. A denim jacket is the perfect year-round piece—wear it over a tee in the summer or under a parka as an extra durable layer in the winter. Brands like Indigofera and The Flat Head are masters at preserving this heritage.

Down Jackets & Winter Outerwear

When the cold is at its peak, the down jacket is unbeatable. However, we aren't talking about mass-produced lightweights, but heavy-duty constructions like the Karakoram Down Jacket. These jackets are built for expeditions and extreme conditions, filled with high-quality down to keep you warm regardless of the thermometer. For those preferring a military look, the Fishtail Parka or a wool-lined N-1 Deck Jacket are fantastic winter alternatives.

Riders Jackets & Leather

The Riders Jacket is a symbol of rebellious timelessness. Whether in heavy leather or waxed cotton, it is designed to sit close to the body and protect against the wind. A leather rider jacket in horsehide from The Flat Head is a lifetime investment that molds to your body every time you wear it.

Brands That Define Quality

Frizmworks: Functional Design from South Korea

Frizmworks has quickly become a favorite due to their ability to interpret vintage garments with a modern twist. Their Karakoram Down Jacket is a tribute to early mountaineering expeditions and is one of the warmest jackets we offer. For a more casual yet functional style, their Hunting Jacket and Buddy Harrington Jacket are fantastic examples of combining technical details with classic silhouettes.

Filson: Unrivaled American Durability

From Seattle comes Filson, the brand that has defined "Rugged Quality" since 1897. Their Short Lined Cruiser Jacket in waxed Tin Cloth is legendary—especially after being featured in major productions like Yellowstone. It is wind-resistant, water-repellent, and practically indestructible. Filson’s use of Mackinaw Wool in their winter coats is also in a class of its own.

Freenote Cloth & Indigofera

American Freenote Cloth are masters of detail. Their waxed riders jacket is a modern icon, balancing the attitude of a leather jacket with the practicality of canvas. From the other side of the ocean, we bring you Indigofera, whose Fargo Jacket blurs the line between a heavy shirt and a jacket, focusing on unique fabrics and a timeless fit.

Tellason & Fleurs de Bagne

For those seeking a genuine Chore Coat, Tellason from San Francisco is the definitive choice. Their jackets are sewn in the USA from the finest denim and built for work. France’s Fleurs de Bagne goes even further back in history, drawing inspiration from old-world French workwear, resulting in robust French Work Jackets in materials like moleskin and heavy twill.

Finding the Right Fit for Your Next Investment

We know buying jackets online can be tricky. That’s why we put great emphasis on our sizing guides. Different brands have different fits; a Frizmworks piece might be "oversized," while The Flat Head is often "slim fit." We measure all our jackets so you can compare them with your favorite at home.
