In many ways Fats Domino was a precursor of Rock 'n' Roll, and always maintained that his style never really changed from the early days in New Orleans.
In the early 50's, Fats became one of the most successful R 'n' B artists, his superb band assembled by Bartholomew bringing together all the elements of New Orleans gumbo with a blend of Jazz, Latin, Cajun, Boogie-Woogie, and Blues. But it wasn't until 1955 that the first crossover hit arrived in the shape of 'Ain't That A Shame' which initiated a steady run of hits.
