League: Butte Independent League
History: The Butte Colored Giants were established around 1910 in Butte, Montana. Butte was a booming mining town at the time and home to the historic Negro League team from 1917 to 1939.
A man by the name of Frank Yamer ran and funded the team during its early years. Yamer was the owner of a local night spot called Silver City Club, and the team was often dubbed the "Silver City Giants." In 1922, the team entered the Butte Independent League and became league champions, the first black team to do so. Returning to league play again in 1923, the Colored Giants defeated Meaderville to secure back-to-back championships and a place in Butte baseball history.
