"One of Finland’s oldest roots bands has been around some 20 years. Sax player Timo Tarkela and singer Ari "Dr Snout" Ahvonen put "The Rhythm Hogs" together in the early 80’s. Their friend Jarmo Kauppinen, who played guitar with jazz and western swing flavors was also an important character in the band on those early years. The band started as a rock’n’roll band in the Bill Haley-rockabilly-but also some r & b-style.
The band plays jumpin’ rhythm and blues of 40’s and 50’s with swingin’ jazz flavors. Their influences include rhythm & blues of Wynonie Harris, Roy Brown, Big Joe Turner, Amos Milburn, Tiny Bradshaw, Roy Milton, Ruth Brown, Julia Lee, west coast piano blues of Charles Brown, Little Willie Littlefield, New Orleans sound of Fats Domino, Smiley Lewis, Dave Bartholomew, black rock'n'roll of likes Larry Williams and Young Jessie, vocal groups like The Five Keys, The Five Royales, The Clovers, Du Droppers and small jazzy blues combos like Slim Gaillards’ combos, The Big Three Trio, King Cole Trio not forgetting the rough blues sounds of Howlin’ Wolf etc." - From homepage
