"THE PRESTON YEARS is dominated by material from the first and shortest-lived lineup of the Dancehall Racketeers. Part of the reason for this is that Graeme Thomas, the genius behind the Preston Records phenomenon, was the bass player during that short epoch of the band's existence. Graeme liked to turn every practice session into a reording date, which is just as well for posterity's sake in this instance. None of these tracks were ever issued until the first lineup had split, and then only 500 copies of a four track, vinyl EP were pressed up and sold, mainly to habitues of Hound Dogs Bop Shop. So it seemed like a good idea to issue just abut everything we recorded of that first band. In its various forms, the Dancehall Racketeers survived as a full-time road-band for a further seven years after that first lineup, and made many more recordings at the makeshift studio set up in a bedroom of Graeme's parent's home in James St. Preston..............."
