Swing Of Sahara |
|
 |
Swing of Sahara is indeed a unique group. Distinguished by their enthusiasm and passion for music, the two young guitarists, Andreas Ugorskij and Peter Dobronyi, perform with a devilish love for Gyspy Jazz. Theirs' is an affection that resonates clear out of the nickel-plating of their guitar strings. Armed with vintage Höfner guitars, Swing of Sahara brings a breath of spontaneity to the genre, propelling their fine compositions into the now. Gone is the dusty patina and the self-referential Jazz Club tendencies, traded in for a simple, honest strum worthy of a rock band.
With Johan Segerberg on double bass, the band recorded their live CD,
"Nothing Toulouse", at Galleri Gaz-Art, Copenhagen in May of 2002.
The CD is a combination of the group's own compositions and classic by
Ellington, Roubanis, Grappelli and Django Reinhardt; Reinhardt, if anyone,
was responsible for developing the genre over sixty years ago.
The CD's twelve tracks, the last one being hidden, are optimistic and timeless
-- music in black and white. The cheerful, melodramatic, latin-tempered moods
leaves the listener ecstatic and out-of-breath.
